I Write Because…

Getting a slow start on my assignments for Writing 101 of Blogging University  due to being on vacation but better late than never! This post is in response to the first assignment.

Why I WriteI write because…

I can’t speak.

Ok…well, technically, I can speak. I have no problem talking. It’s just that social situations are intimidating to me and suddenly I am overcome with shyness.

It’s just that most often I am too shy…or too introverted…or something to just spit out things that are on my mind. I tend to hang back and watch and listen when in a group. Most often because I don’t think I know enough about whatever the current topic or subject is about to really be able to feel like I have something worthy to add to the conversation.

I tend to get a lot of crap (with love and usually in the nicest sort of way) from friends and acquaintances because I don’t speak. But that isn’t because I don’t have anything to say…I just am too shy to let the words out!

Despite my lack of ability to speak up…I don’t consider myself a pushover though. I think I just prefer to pick my battles. There are things that I care deeply about and feel knowledgeable enough about where I can overcome my shyness and speak.

Things like animal care and welfare, or some crafts or hobbies that I feel I am pretty educated about or about treating others with kindness and love. These few topics (and maybe others) more often than not would be something you might hear me voice my opinion about…not always…depends on whether or not I feel that the person or persons involved in the conversation would be willing to hear me. If I think my voice might fall on deaf ears…I may just hold my tongue…for another time.

  1. Oh, I understand your predicament. Story of my life. Have you read the book, “Quiet”? It’s a great read – all about the benefits of being an introvert. I recommend it. Embrace who you are! 🙂

  2. I’m similar. I’m not verbally articulate, and also like to observe and listen when in a group or among new people. I like feeling people out, I suppose.

Writing is different for me — it’s natural and I feel in command.

Thanks for joining us in Writing 101!

    1. I think the world might be a different place if there were more people who put a little extra thought into words or actions.
