Pour Some Sugar on Me

I’m a child of the eighty’s, what can I say? The first thing I thought of when I read today’s prompt from The Daily Post was Def Leppard’s song “Pour Some Sugar on Me,” off the 1987 album, Hysteria.

Complete with flashbacks from my high school prom, hanging out with friends and driving around in my friend’s cars with songs like this one blaring from the radio. Even now if I am flipping through radio stations and this song is on I will stop and turn it up and sing along. You gotta love songs that have the ability to transport you back to a specific time or place and allow you to relive those moments over again.

The prompt was intending for one to describe your favorite sweet thing to eat. Bread pudding? Chocolate chip oatmeal cookies? A smooth and creamy piece of cheesecake? Tell us all about the anticipation and delight of eating your favorite dessert. Not into sweets? Tell us all about your weakness for that certain salty snack.

Ben & Jerry's Chunky MonkeyAnd HEY, sweets just happens to be my favorite food group! I love me some Ben & Jerry’s Chunky Monkey!! It is my go to comfort-y, comfort food! If all is going well, there is always a pint of this yummy treat in my freezer…ya know, just in case of emergencies or emotional meltdowns. Oreo cookies are another one of those ‘must haves’ in the cabinet…in case of chocolate craving emergencies. And just to be thorough with this prompt…yes, bread pudding is yummy. Chocolate pudding is a delicious. Homemade chocolate chip oatmeal cookies are pretty good too. I just so happen to make a pretty darn good New York style cheesecake too.  In actuality there really are not too many sweets I don’t like. Other than that whole dilemma of carrot cake, which I find is a total waste of cake! Although it does make a great vehicle for cream cheese frosting…but really, carrot cake is just not necessary!

As you can see, I can probably go on and on with my love of all things sweet…but all this talk has made me hungry, so I think I will go and listen to Pour Some Sugar on Me while I have a little mid afternoon bite of Chunky Monkey

  1. Ditto. 80 rocked we had the best movies music… When I tell kids that I work with that I saw the original terminator in the theater they just blink. We had best one liners too..

  2. I LOVE 80’s music – and I will never forget sitting at a red light one day when “Pour Some Sugar On Me” came on the radio – and as I sat there singing at the top of my lungs (80’s music brings out the best in me) it occurred to me that I had, at that point in time, been listening to that song for almost 25 years. I suddenly felt old, and then shook it off thinking… almost 25 years old, and still played on mainstream radio. People laugh at 80’s music, but there a lot of songs from that decade still played all the time – can you say that of other decades? Great post!

  3. Haha!! The song was my first thought when I saw the title of your post! Then I thought, “Oh, maybe it’s a dessert recipe” LOL Chunky Monkey ice cream is very yummy:p
