Critter Corner Sweet Cuteness

Critter CornerThought I would share some critter cuteness from this past weekend.

Back in the end of August, I mentioned that we sorta kinda ended up with two new additions to The Menagerie…2 baby sugar gliders, Gumdrop and Skittles.

Pretty much every day since then, they have been spending a couple of hours (or more) each day with me in a bonding pouch, learning my smell and getting to know me. They also learn to get used to being handled and to know I am not going to hurt them. They are very little critters after all and humans seem like giants to them…so it takes a little while from them to learn to trust you. Being able to have them with me during the day though is pretty cool…they come with me running errands and to pet sitting visits or when we go out to do things in the afternoon or early evening.

Sugar gliders are nocturnal animals, so most of the day they spend sleeping, which makes for the perfect situation for them to hang out in a bonding pouch for a few hours during the day getting used to me, even while they are sleeping. And then they wake up in the evenings and are up and about and ready to play.

Anyway, this past weekend they got their first ever mini-marshmallow treat (only a very occasional treat for sugar gliders) and ended up taking this video cause they were just so darn cute enjoying their marshmallows! Love how they hold it in their little tiny hands!

Hope you enjoyed watching this sugar-y cuteness of Critter Corner. Feel free to join in and share your critter tales, adventures and photos and include the tag #CritterCorner. I am a sucker for a animal cute face or a funny animal story!

Introducing Critter Corner

Critter CornerConsidering the majority of my life that seems to revolve around animals. Whether I am wearing my Professional Pet Sitter hat and running around town taking care of everyone else’s animals. Or I am wearing my Critter Mom hat and taking care of my own menagerie of critters. Or even when I have my Photography hat on, chances are pretty good that I have focused my camera lens on the wildlife I manage to find all around me or my own adorable animals.

What can I say? I’m addicted!! Animals make me happy! They bring a smile to my face and lift me up when I am down. I can’t imagine my life without animals. Consequently, I am always a little weary of someone who claims not to like animals?!?! That is just not normal in my opinion! Continue reading

National Dog Day

As a pet sitter and a doggie mom, I can not just ignore the hype on social media about the fact that today, August 26th, is National Dog Day!!

According to the National Dog Day website:

“National Dog Day is celebrated August 26th annually and was founded in 2004 by Pet & Family Lifestyle Expert and Animal Advocate, Colleen Paige (also the founder of National Puppy Day, National Mutt Day and National Cat Day …to name a few).

National Dog Day serves to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, and acknowledges family dogs and dogs that work selflessly each day to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort. Dogs put their lives on the line every day – for their law enforcement partner, for their blind companion, for a child who is disabled, for our freedom and safety by detecting bombs and drugs and pulling victims of tragedy from wreckage.

National Dog Day is against any kind of “breed ban”. Dogs should not have to lose their lives because of the atrocities they have been forced to endure at the hands of man. And while we feel that American’s have the constitutional right to purchase a pure breed dog, we strongly discourage buying dogs from pet stores supplied by puppy mills, backyard breeders, the internet and newspaper ads. Rather, we encourage those seeking new canine companions, to consider choosing adoption first and if you’d like a pure breed dog, look into a pure breed rescue to see if they might have just the dog you’re looking for.”

Saturday Smile #5

Today’s Saturday Smile post shares some images from two years ago (as well as more recently) when my youngest dog, Maggie Mae, first came home. Thanks to Facebook, I was reminded of ‘my memories’ this week and that my youngest dog we welcomed home on August 20, 2013! How time flies!!

Maggie Mae is an Australian Shepherd and just turned two at the end of June. She is a typical little sister, who enjoys tormenting her big brother, Sawyer Brown, at all times! She enjoys treats of all kinds, stealing the ball away from Sawyer Brown, and ‘giving kisses’ to her kitties, Oreo and Spencer. She has the most adorable little freckles on her nose…which mange to keep her out of any serious trouble, because you just look at that little face and you can’t stay mad at her for long!

Now for some cute puppy pics to make you smile on this Saturday…

Saturday Smile #2

smile1Saturday Smile is a weekly feature hosted over on Feeding on FollyToday’s Saturday Smile features these adorable little critters, who are a constant source of smiles for me every day…not just Saturdays. But seeing how today is cage cleaning day…they are today’s source of amusement.

As I mentioned in a previous post, one of the best gifts I ever received was my first ferret, Samantha, back in 2010. She was a birthday gift from my boyfriend, who isn’t the really the best gift giver…but this year he did good!

We happened to be in the pet store right before closing a day or so before my birthday, and while he was getting some mice for his snake’s dinner, I was distracted by this adorable little ferret in the cage. Of course, one of the sales people offered to let me hold her… Continue reading
