This week’s edition of Fav Foto Friday are a few photos of the feathered visitors that stop by at my bird feeder. Watching the feeder for the newest visitors just doesn’t seem to get old. I am entertained by the visitors almost as much as my cats, Spencer and Oreo, who sit by the sliding glass door and stalk the visitors from the comfort and safety (for all concerned) of the living room.

It always brings a smile to my face when I look out and see the Cardinals especially. I don’t know what it is about them, maybe it is just because you notice a flash of red and it catches your eye, but they are very much welcome at my feeders. As are all the other various little feathered friends…and sometimes furry friends too!

The summer has been kind of busy for me and so I haven’t had much time to spend with my ‘big girl’ camera (Nikon D5300) but I do leave it sitting out near my deck so that I can grab it whenever I get a few minutes to myself. However, it has been a few weeks since I have been able to get them from the camera onto my computer and check them out and do some editing.

This afternoon I managed a little bit of time to take some photos and download them all to my computer. Consequently, today’s featured images for Fav Foto Friday will be a few of the images of my feathered visitors over the last few weeks. I am still loving my birdfeeders I hung off my deck earlier this year, which makes for fun subject matter to photograph.

My favorite one, of the ones I have managed to edit with Lightroom, so far, is this House Finch. I just love seeing these little ones through the telephoto lens of my camera. You get to see them ‘up close’ and see all of their little expressions.

The image exif data is: Nikon D5300|Tamron 70-300|ISO800|300mm|/f 5.6|1/1000 sec

And just cause one, is never enough…here are a few more for your viewing pleasure.

I never get tired of photographing these little guys…so I am sure you will be seeing more of these once I get some time to go through them and do some editing.

Image Reboot #2

rebootThis is my second entry in the recurring monthly feature, Image Reboot. A jointly hosted feature by Bridging Lacunas and Musings of a Frequent Flying Scientist, in which you share some photo editing techniques to rescue or enhance an ordinary photograph.

Today’s image is an image of a bird at one of the feeders I have hanging off my deck. The birds have become some of my favorite subjects for playing with my camera. The image is not spectacular by any means…but it was a great example of what you can do with photo editing software to save a photo that otherwise you may have just passed on by. Continue reading

Fav Foto Friday #2

Fav Foto Friday2Here are a couple of my ‘Fav Foto Friday’ selections for this week.

This little guy was hanging out earlier this week in our front yard…with Momma keeping a close watch on him. I think it was ‘learning to fly time’ cause he was in the grass for like 2 days. Hoping around from place to place or curling up and sleeping against the stonewall. All the while momma was perched in the tree nearby and would come down and feed him/her.

Then earlier this summer, I also got the opportunity to ‘meet’ 2 other fledgling babies. One of which I think flew into a window and landed in the front yard. He seemed to have one swollen eye and was a little off balance. I was worried that he would not be safe on the ground overnight so I did put him in a little carrier for the night and he made it til morning…which made me happy. But then I left him in the crate with the door open, in the grass where he had landed, but at some point during the day he ended up dying. Which broke my heart! Such a sweet little thing…but I think he just hit the window too hard and probably gave himself a little birdie concussion 🙁 Continue reading
