This week’s edition of Fav Foto Friday is a continuation of the Christmas theme. I love this picture! I have repeatedly gone back to look at this photo all week. I just love it! It might have something to do with the fact that I just love this silly cat…but he is just so awesome! (Hence, the tag I use for all his photos on social media #OreoIsAwesome) This was taken on Christmas morning and he of course needed to be center of attention, and what better place to do that than under the tree amidst the presents!?!?

This cat is truly one of the best things that we have ever done. He is so grateful to have been rescued from the streets of Bridgeport, that he just oozes with love for his humans! He is has gone from a scraggly pauper kitten with no food to eat and no warm house to call a home, to a regal prince of a cat who has more than enough food to eat and his choice of warm beds to cuddle up in and a big warm castle to call home.

This week’s edition of Fav Foto Friday is a Christmas Edition, which seems rather appropriate seeing how it is Christmas Day!

With the recent  loss of my Mom, and also earlier this year the loss of my boyfriend’s dad, Mr. Z., this season has been difficult to say the least. But we have tried to do some things in order to celebrate the season, like going into NYC to see the tree, which despite the crowds is always a sort of fun city outting.

Rockfeller Tree 2015

We also thought 4 days before Christmas was obviously the best time of year to check out the Lego store in the city as well (we really need our heads examined!!!) but seeing the Lego creations, like this Santa, was kinda cool 🙂

Then earlier this week I stopped to capture a pretty view of our church building looking rather festive…despite the warm weather and lack of snow.

SCC Christmastime

And lastly, our own Christmas tree. We thought we might not get one this year…then a few days ago we were feeling guilty for not feeling like celebrating Christmas, so we agreed to get a little tree so that we might attempt to find some moments of Christmas joy. So without further ado, I present “Junior,” our Christmas tree…complete with an Oreo cookie under the tree for Santa 🙂

Twas The Night Before Christmas

Santa Checking His List
Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar plums danced in their heads,
And Mama in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter’s nap-
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters, and threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow,
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below;
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a minature sleigh, and eight tiny rein-deer,
With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.

More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and call’d them by name:
“Now! Dasher, now! Dancer, now! Prancer, and Vixen,
“On! Comet, on! Cupid, on! Donner and Blizen;
“To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
“Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!”
As dry leaves before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky;
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of Toys – and St. Nicholas too:
And then in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.

As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound:
He was dress’d all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnish’d with ashes and soot;
A bundle of toys was flung on his back,
And he look’d like a peddler just opening his pack:
His eyes – how they twinkled! his dimples how merry,
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry;
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;
The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.

He had a broad face, and a little round belly
That shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly:
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him in spite of myself;
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,
And laying his finger aside of his nose
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose.

He sprung to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew, like the down of a thistle:
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight-
Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night.

Merry Christmas to All

May this Christmas bring you comfort, joy, peace and happiness to last throughout the coming year!

What if Christmas, Perhaps, Means a Little Bit More

This year as I attempt to avoid the holiday craziness and to some extent the holidays all together, I can’t help but think that maybe this year, Christmas might mean a little bit more, by spending more time just remembering Christmas’s past and enjoying the simpler moments. No big parties and no shopping malls and lots of packages, rather, more quality time with friends and family, messages of thankfulness attached to small tokens of appreciation and moments of quietness and reflections of the holiday season and the true meaning of Christmas.

Whoville

“And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow,
stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled ’till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.”
― Dr. Seuss, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

The Real Meaning of Christmas

Christmas just isn’t Christmas without watching this classic, A Charlie Brown Christmas, where Linus answers Charlie Brown’s question, “Isn’t there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?”

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Luke 2: 8-14

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas! I would like to take this time to wish you all a blessed holiday season. May this Christmas bring you comfort, joy, peace and happiness to last throughout the coming year!
