This week’s edition of Fav Foto Friday is the fifty-second edition of Fav Foto Friday!?!? A whole year has gone by?!?! Where does the time go!?!? I am so grateful to all of my fellow blogger who have participated and helped to keep this weekly feature going!!

It has been a long year in some ways for me dealing with the death of my mom and yet in other ways it has flown by! I guess the ‘flying by’ of a year has a little something to do with getting older. I remember as a child it felt like forever til it would be Christmas again. As I get older it feels like I just put away all the holiday decorations and I am turning around and getting them out again.

In celebration of the 52nd Fav Foto Friday, I have decided to just choose some of my favorite photos from the past year. Celebrate with me and share some of your favorite photos from the past year…or new ones you haven’t yet shared.

Thank you for being a part of this journey!!

Hope you have enjoyed today’s Fav Foto Friday selections! Join me and share some of your favorite images! Don’t forget to tag your post #favfotofriday.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Seasons

The Weekly Photo Challenge hosted at The Daily Post for this week is Seasons and couldn’t help but want to participate.

I love all the seasons! I am so grateful to have lived most of my life in New England where each season is a distinct and a unique time of year. If questioned I would probably say that Spring and Fall are my favorite seasons of the year, as I am more of a moderate weather kind of person. Yet I love the heat of the summer when you can have fun in the sun and play in the ocean or the ‘smell of snow’ and the bitter cold of the winter when you can hibernate by the fire with a good book.

I love the beauty and rebirth of the spring. The joy of shedding layers of clothing and to feel the sunshine on your skin again even if for only a few hours during the middle of the day. The first daffodils of the year with their happy yellow blooms.

I love that I have lived relatively close to the ocean or a body of water most of my life so that in the heat of the summer there is some escape from the oppressive heat that sometime sticks around for a bit longer than we would like in the summer. The ocean is both magnificent and powerful, as well as peaceful and tranquil.

After a long hot summer, I look forward to the chill in the air that creeps in during the fall. The mildly warm days and chilly evenings that require a sweater. I love all the comfort foods that are so tempting and available during the fall. And I can’t wait for Thanksgiving.

And then there is winter. I am one of the few that actually still gets excited about the ‘smell of snow’ and waking up to a blanket of white covering the world and the possibility of snow cancellations. Getting up early with my dogs and going out while it is still snowing and just listening to freshly fallen snow. It has a sound all of its own that is so peaceful.

Winter 2016 has been relatively mild so far…however this ‘season’ of my life has been a season of upheaval, as I lost my Mom at the end of Oct. 2015 and I have been longing for more time to just hibernate and lick my wounds. Yet, this year, we have had unseasonably warm days and few actual snow falls that amounted to anything…which makes for not a very good season of hibernation.

“I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug, you know, with a white quilt; and perhaps it says “Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again.”

This week’s edition of Fav Foto Friday is one of my all time favorite photos that I took last year shortly after getting my ‘big girl’ camera. I am actually surprised that I had not added this photo to Fav Foto Friday already. But I happened to receive an email from a photography site, Pixoto, that I occasionally add photos to, letting me know that one of my photos had received an award.

Pixoto is an online community where photographers compete to have the best images in their category. Submitted images are matched against each other in the ImageDuel system and voted on by other community members. The winners advance on the Image Leaderboards and vie for the coveted top spot.

So upon further investigation, I found out that this photo was in the “Top 5% in Animals for 2015”!! Which as you might imagine is pretty exciting!

Back in May 2015, when I originally took this photo, I had submitted it in a weekly contest on the site within the Animal category, and it ended up with a “Top 10%” award for that particular contest, along with the comment below from the coordinator/host of the contest, which was a pretty big deal at the time too.

This is one of the cutest squirrel images that I’ve seen, Sandy. I’m pleased that it outperformed more than 480 images in Your Best Pixoto Uploads from May 15th-21st, 2015 to win a Top 10% award. That’s an impressive accomplishment. Congratulations.

My original intention when grabbing my camera on this particular day was to take some photos of the birds out at my new bird feeders but instead I got the amusing shenanigans of this adorable ‘Squirrel Thief.’ I got lots of shots of this cutie, but this is my favorite of them all. Lucky for him, I am an equal opportunity wildlife feeder, so he got to get a belly full of the bird food.

This week’s edition of Fav Foto Friday is a simple photo I took of some cut flowers that managed to stay beautiful for an extra long time. This is one of the daisies that were in a Thanksgiving bouquet that I just tossed this past weekend. The rest of the flowers in the bouquet didn’t look quite so pretty anymore but these daisies stood out from the rest and still looked beautiful, so I decided to keep them around a little longer. So I did what any other wanna-be-photographer would do…I took some photos of them 🙂 It just made me happy that these flowers seemed to survive for so long, I thought they deserved some special attention and to live on as a photographic memory.

This week’s edition of Fav Foto Friday is just a happy little surprise that arrived in the mail this week. An early Christmas present from my best friend who knows I have a bit of a gnome addiction (which you can read more about here and here), and sent this adorable little gnome to cheer me up as I have been a bit sad these days with the loss of mom and the impending holidays. My newest little gnome has become fast friends with this bear who sits on the mantle so each time I walk by he brings I smile to my face.

This week’s edition of Fav Foto Friday features these guys who were hanging out at the local parrot store of all places. I went there to pick up some bird food for my parrotlets and in the display by the front door were these cute kids….so of course I had to stop and say hi and take a few pics.

Little Tortoise vs. Turtle Fact:

Tortoises and turtles are both reptiles from the order of Testudines, but in different classification families. The major difference between the two is that tortoises dwell on land, while turtles live in the water some or nearly all of the time.

This week’s edition of Fav Foto Friday is another photo from one of favorite pastimes since I got my ‘big girl camera,’ which is taking photos of the birds out at my bird feeders. Who knew bird watching could be so much fun?!? I find it so much fun being able to zoom in and see these little ones up close. I love being able to see the expressions on their faces as they stop by for a quick snack. I especially love these littles ones, the tufted titmouse. They have the cutest little faces!

This week’s edition of Fav Foto Friday happens to fall on a “Friday the 13th” and it is also my birthday, so my photo selection is made solely for my own amusement. It is a photo I took at one of my bird feeders this summer. Although it probably isn’t technically cool, it amuses me and looks to be just a clash of colors and feathers. Who knew that bird feeders and a camera could be so much fun and hours of amusement for me?

This week’s edition of Fav Foto Friday is in tribute to my Mom. Just about 10 days ago my Mom was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer that had spread to her liver…and this past Wednesday, in the early morning of October 28th, 2015 my Mom passed away peacefully in her sleep. Not nearly enough time to even process the diagnosis, never-mind prepare for her passing. So today…a day late…I dedicate this week’s Fav Foto Friday to my Mom.

Love you so much Momma!!!

This week’s edition of Fav Foto Friday is a photo that I happen to capture because this very busy squirrel was hanging (literally) from a tree sitting right in front of my car. He was very busy gathering his winter stash of nuts when I so rudely interrupted him by having the nerve to park in front of this tree. I couldn’t resist grabbing a few shots of him and his silly squirrel antics.
