Boundaries

In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Boundaries.”

Today I decided to check out The Daily Post for some blogging inspiration and stumbled across Weekly Photo Challenge which is Boundaries, which happened to be just the inspiration I needed!

I sort of have a thing for boundaries…mostly about crossing them. I am not a big fan of rules, and in my mind boundaries comes very close to sounding a whole lot like a rule to me. However, while browsing through my photos to find just the right one I noticed that I seem to have a lot of photos of various kinds of boundaries.

I love fence lines…especially ones that possibly contain horses. I like rock walls. Pathways that attempt to keep us on the straight and narrow. And of course, as someone who is drawn to all things animals, I am often at a zoo or some such place where there are so many kinds of boundaries that we put around animals in captivity to either keep them safe…or us safe from them.According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary a boundary is:

  • something (such as a river, a fence, or an imaginary line) that shows where an area ends and another area begins
  • a point or limit that indicates where two things become different
    • boundaries : unofficial rules about what should not be done
    • limits that define acceptable behavior

  1. Apparently, you are just like me. Always straining against the established boundaries! The best way to drive people in authority nuts, I have found is to follow the rules EXACTLY as written. They can’t handle facing their own stupid rules! When given a syllabus in high school, I saved it. Then when the semester got about half way through started asking why we hadn’t even started studying the harder topics yet. Then they wanted to know where I had gotten the idea we were supposed to be studying them, handed them a copy of the paper work they had given me earlier. For some reason, they were not amused!

  2. I can appreciate this. I don’t like rules, as they usually are broken by those who are irresponsible. Also, those that make the rules are usually the first to break them.
