5 tips for combating litter box stink

My Feline Back Story

I have had cats in my life as far back as I can remember. Indoor cats. Stray cats. Barn cats. Foster cats. Black cats. White cats. Tiger kitties. Tuxedo cats. Orange “Garfield” kitties. Siamese kittens. All of them hold a piece of my heart and are happy memories of a lifetime ago.

This week’s edition of Fav Foto Friday is just a glimpse at the things that amuse me with my critters. Checking on the ferrets is always an opportunity for a smile. There is no guessing of what you may see when you sneak up on them unawares. This one was particularly amusing to me the other day!

Silly Sleeping Ferrets

And these are just a few other compromising positions that I always find amusing! They are more often than not just in a huge heap on the bottom of there cage. Of course there are 5 other levels with comfy beds and hammocks and such on that mom spends all her extra money to buy for them…but they apparently think that a ferrety pig pile is much more comfortable.

This week’s edition of Fav Foto Friday features Dumb & Dumber…a loving nickname to my 2 canines! Ok…their names are not really Dumb and Dumber…this is Sawyer Brown and Maggie Mae.

They actually are not really dumb either…quite the opposite in fact…but they are inseparable and constantly very busy getting into some kind of mischief. It is a rare occasion that I can get the 2 of them in a picture where they ‘look’ like they are resting and without food being waved above their heads 😉

They know they are not really allowed on the bed…mostly because they think it is a wrestling ring…so the fact that they were able to sit still for a cute photo op, for approximately 2.3 seconds is an impressive feat. And definitely deserves making a Fav Foto Friday post.

Critter Corner Sweet Cuteness

Critter CornerThought I would share some critter cuteness from this past weekend.

Back in the end of August, I mentioned that we sorta kinda ended up with two new additions to The Menagerie…2 baby sugar gliders, Gumdrop and Skittles.

Pretty much every day since then, they have been spending a couple of hours (or more) each day with me in a bonding pouch, learning my smell and getting to know me. They also learn to get used to being handled and to know I am not going to hurt them. They are very little critters after all and humans seem like giants to them…so it takes a little while from them to learn to trust you. Being able to have them with me during the day though is pretty cool…they come with me running errands and to pet sitting visits or when we go out to do things in the afternoon or early evening.

Sugar gliders are nocturnal animals, so most of the day they spend sleeping, which makes for the perfect situation for them to hang out in a bonding pouch for a few hours during the day getting used to me, even while they are sleeping. And then they wake up in the evenings and are up and about and ready to play.

Anyway, this past weekend they got their first ever mini-marshmallow treat (only a very occasional treat for sugar gliders) and ended up taking this video cause they were just so darn cute enjoying their marshmallows! Love how they hold it in their little tiny hands!

Hope you enjoyed watching this sugar-y cuteness of Critter Corner. Feel free to join in and share your critter tales, adventures and photos and include the tag #CritterCorner. I am a sucker for a animal cute face or a funny animal story!

Introducing Critter Corner

Critter CornerConsidering the majority of my life that seems to revolve around animals. Whether I am wearing my Professional Pet Sitter hat and running around town taking care of everyone else’s animals. Or I am wearing my Critter Mom hat and taking care of my own menagerie of critters. Or even when I have my Photography hat on, chances are pretty good that I have focused my camera lens on the wildlife I manage to find all around me or my own adorable animals.

What can I say? I’m addicted!! Animals make me happy! They bring a smile to my face and lift me up when I am down. I can’t imagine my life without animals. Consequently, I am always a little weary of someone who claims not to like animals?!?! That is just not normal in my opinion! Continue reading

Saturday Smile #6

A little late today getting this post up…my boyfriend and I were enjoying a rare day off and decided to go on a little adventure out of town for a good part of the day.

Earlier this week, I saw this video on a friend’s Facebook page and I just thought it was pretty darn cool!! And definitely brought a smile to my face!   Continue reading

National Dog Day

As a pet sitter and a doggie mom, I can not just ignore the hype on social media about the fact that today, August 26th, is National Dog Day!!

According to the National Dog Day website:

“National Dog Day is celebrated August 26th annually and was founded in 2004 by Pet & Family Lifestyle Expert and Animal Advocate, Colleen Paige (also the founder of National Puppy Day, National Mutt Day and National Cat Day …to name a few).

National Dog Day serves to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, and acknowledges family dogs and dogs that work selflessly each day to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort. Dogs put their lives on the line every day – for their law enforcement partner, for their blind companion, for a child who is disabled, for our freedom and safety by detecting bombs and drugs and pulling victims of tragedy from wreckage.

National Dog Day is against any kind of “breed ban”. Dogs should not have to lose their lives because of the atrocities they have been forced to endure at the hands of man. And while we feel that American’s have the constitutional right to purchase a pure breed dog, we strongly discourage buying dogs from pet stores supplied by puppy mills, backyard breeders, the internet and newspaper ads. Rather, we encourage those seeking new canine companions, to consider choosing adoption first and if you’d like a pure breed dog, look into a pure breed rescue to see if they might have just the dog you’re looking for.”

Tuesday Tidbits…New Additions

Today’s Tuesday Tidbits focuses on our weekend activities…we accidentally, on purpose, added a few more little critters, to our not so small menagerie of animals.

The accidental part, was that we went to a local fair (which ended up being a different fair than we thought we were going to)…but it turned out to be a very nice accident.

I am a country girl at heart who is trapped living in the city. Not a huge city, but bigger than I would like. Thankfully, where we live, is kind of in the woods, so most of the time I can pretend that I am isolated in the woods somewhere and not like 5 minutes from civilization.

This time of year, I especially, look forward to our little adventures to various agricultural fairs in the area and this past weekend was the first of our yearly fair circuit. Continue reading
