A little late today getting this post up…my boyfriend and I were enjoying a rare day off and decided to go on a little adventure out of town for a good part of the day.

National Dog Day

As a pet sitter and a doggie mom, I can not just ignore the hype on social media about the fact that today, August 26th, is National Dog Day!!

According to the National Dog Day website:

“National Dog Day is celebrated August 26th annually and was founded in 2004 by Pet & Family Lifestyle Expert and Animal Advocate, Colleen Paige (also the founder of National Puppy Day, National Mutt Day and National Cat Day …to name a few).

National Dog Day serves to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, and acknowledges family dogs and dogs that work selflessly each day to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort. Dogs put their lives on the line every day – for their law enforcement partner, for their blind companion, for a child who is disabled, for our freedom and safety by detecting bombs and drugs and pulling victims of tragedy from wreckage.

National Dog Day is against any kind of “breed ban”. Dogs should not have to lose their lives because of the atrocities they have been forced to endure at the hands of man. And while we feel that American’s have the constitutional right to purchase a pure breed dog, we strongly discourage buying dogs from pet stores supplied by puppy mills, backyard breeders, the internet and newspaper ads. Rather, we encourage those seeking new canine companions, to consider choosing adoption first and if you’d like a pure breed dog, look into a pure breed rescue to see if they might have just the dog you’re looking for.”

Tuesday Tidbits…New Additions

Today’s Tuesday Tidbits focuses on our weekend activities…we accidentally, on purpose, added a few more little critters, to our not so small menagerie of animals.

The accidental part, was that we went to a local fair (which ended up being a different fair than we thought we were going to)…but it turned out to be a very nice accident.

I am a country girl at heart who is trapped living in the city. Not a huge city, but bigger than I would like. Thankfully, where we live, is kind of in the woods, so most of the time I can pretend that I am isolated in the woods somewhere and not like 5 minutes from civilization.

This time of year, I especially, look forward to our little adventures to various agricultural fairs in the area and this past weekend was the first of our yearly fair circuit. Continue reading

Sunday Snippets of Inspiration #5

Sunday Snippets of InspirationThis week’s Sunday Snippets of Inspiration for me today is this great video. Maybe just because I am an animal lover…and have always been infatuated with horses for as long as I can remember, but these videos always get to me.

I love the Budweiser commercials! And this week I just happened to see this one on someone’s Facebook page. Brings tears to my eyes every time I watch it (like most of them do). I know these animals are trained to do these things but to me it just shows their willingness to work for us no matter what we ask them to do.

I have worked with horses for many, many years and I know first hand the love and willingness they have to do their job. Whether that may be pulling a cart, jumping over jumps or packing us around on a trail ride.

I am an ‘equal opportunity horse lover’, I don’t care what their job is…dressage, jumping, driving, barrel racing, herding, miniatures, whatever they do…I just love being around them. Nothing inspires me more than walking in to a barn and taking a deep breath of the sweet smell of clean shavings and fresh hay and horses! Most of these gentle giants (or minis who think they are giants!) enjoy working with humans and if you are kind and loving to them, they can become amazing friends.

I  hope you enjoy! Happy Sunday!

Please consider joining me on Sundays and share your Snippets of Inspiration too! Don’t for get to link back here so I can be inspired by what keeps you encouraged in this, sometimes crazy, messed up world!

Saturday Smile #5

smile1Saturday Smile is a weekly feature hosted over on Feeding on Folly that I like to participate in because I think everyone can benefit from having more smiles in their life!

Today’s Saturday Smile post shares some images from two years ago (as well as more recently) when my youngest dog, Maggie Mae, first came home. Thanks to Facebook, I was reminded of ‘my memories’ this week and that my youngest dog we welcomed home on August 20, 2013! How time flies!!

Maggie Mae is an Australian Shepherd and just turned two at the end of June. She is a typical little sister, who enjoys tormenting her big brother, Sawyer Brown, at all times! She enjoys treats of all kinds, stealing the ball away from Sawyer Brown, and ‘giving kisses’ to her kitties, Oreo and Spencer. She has the most adorable little freckles on her nose…which mange to keep her out of any serious trouble, because you just look at that little face and you can’t stay mad at her for long!

Now for some cute puppy pics to make you smile on this Saturday…

The summer has been kind of busy for me and so I haven’t had much time to spend with my ‘big girl’ camera (Nikon D5300) but I do leave it sitting out near my deck so that I can grab it whenever I get a few minutes to myself. However, it has been a few weeks since I have been able to get them from the camera onto my computer and check them out and do some editing.

This afternoon I managed a little bit of time to take some photos and download them all to my computer. Consequently, today’s featured images for Fav Foto Friday will be a few of the images of my feathered visitors over the last few weeks. I am still loving my birdfeeders I hung off my deck earlier this year, which makes for fun subject matter to photograph.

My favorite one, of the ones I have managed to edit with Lightroom, so far, is this House Finch. I just love seeing these little ones through the telephoto lens of my camera. You get to see them ‘up close’ and see all of their little expressions.

The image exif data is: Nikon D5300|Tamron 70-300|ISO800|300mm|/f 5.6|1/1000 sec

And just cause one, is never enough…here are a few more for your viewing pleasure.

I never get tired of photographing these little guys…so I am sure you will be seeing more of these once I get some time to go through them and do some editing.

Hope you have enjoyed today’s Fav Foto Friday selections! Join me and share some of your favorite images! Don’t forget to tag your post #favfotofriday

Tasty Thursday…

Cause it is late…and I am hungry…

Opting again to share in Tasty Thursday, an event hosted over at World and Time Enough. Where you think back on your week and pick the tastiest thing you ate. It can be from breakfast, lunch or dinner. It can be something you made, or something you bought. Sweet, savory, bitter, as long as you loved it!

Chicken & Rice soup

Chicken & Rice soup

One of my very favorite things to eat for lunch or dinner is Chicken & Rice soup. As a matter of fact, in my opinion, chicken and rice should be the basic ingredients of most meals. It’s not glamorous or fancy. It is just a good ole’ comfort food.

Naturally, seeing how it is summer and it has been very hot lately…soup is not high up on the list of things I want to eat when I am already hot and sweaty! However, yesterday, thanks to an unexpected cancellation from one of my pet sitting charges, I ended up with a much needed midday break. By midday or so I was done for the day and had the entire afternoon free and clear! An unheard of occurrence in my pet sitting world, in the middle of the summer, right before school goes back in session. All my clients seem to take advantage of the last few days of summer break to get out of town, leaving me in charge of their critters.

As it turns out, it was a great afternoon, filled with a little bit of cleaning (I gotta make it look good so that I don’t feel guilty while sitting in front of the computer!), some school work for an online course I am taking, blogging time and spending time with my own furry beasts. And since I was home and not running around like a crazy person, I was able to enjoy a relatively relaxing afternoon at home in the air conditioning, avoiding the heat. Which obviously led me to think soup would be a great idea for an easy dinner. In the cold weather, I practically live on this…so yesterday’s treat of a nice bowl of chicken and rice hit the spot!
