This is my second entry in the recurring monthly feature, Image Reboot. A jointly hosted feature by Bridging Lacunas and Musings of a Frequent Flying Scientist, in which you share some photo editing techniques to rescue or enhance an ordinary photograph.
Today’s image is an image of a bird at one of the feeders I have hanging off my deck. The birds have become some of my favorite subjects for playing with my camera. The image is not spectacular by any means…but it was a great example of what you can do with photo editing software to save a photo that otherwise you may have just passed on by.
This image is ‘straight out of camera’ and was taken with my [easyazon_link identifier=”B00I1CPA0O” locale=”US” tag=”scrmus06-20″]Nikon D5300[/easyazon_link] and a [easyazon_link identifier=”B00HRF72WK” locale=”US” tag=”scrmus06-20″]Tamron 150-600mm lens[/easyazon_link]. As you can see it would have been very easy to have just passed straight on by because it is really…kind of…just ugly…overexposed, crooked and has the blurry edge of the deck railing in the foreground.
Here is the photo after some editing in [easyazon_link identifier=”B00VWCKJVA” locale=”US” tag=”scrmus06-20″]Lightroom[/easyazon_link]:
- cropped and straightened
- brought exposure down to -1.66
- bumped up contrast to +40
- highlights -95
- shadows +79
- clarity +31
- vibrance +29
- saturation +12
I am by no means an expert with Lightroom…I mostly just play with the sliders til I like what I see…absolutely no science behind it at all…but I have fun doing it!!
Join us with this fun feature and share your Image Reboots and tag your post with imagereboot so we can all see your awesome photo saves!
This is great! I needed this. Now to try it out!
Thanks! It is kinda fun to play with image editing…even if it is only trial and error…you learn by doing 🙂 Good luck!
Fantastic, Sandy! Thank you for sharing all of the settings. It is very helpful! I just play with sliders, too, but may not have tried all of them.
