In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “ROY G. BIV.”
Oh yes, good ole’ Roy. G. Biv. How can anyone forget that? The colors of the rainbow…Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet.
I remember him from back in elementary school, learning about the colors of the rainbow. It was probably about the same time I learned about “Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge” and “FACE,” in music class and violin lessons, both mnemonic devices to help one remember the name and placement of musical notes on a musical staff. Good times! And it seems that mnemonic devices really work…cause it has been a LONG time since I was in elementary school and I still remember them 🙂
I also recall from long ago Sunday School classes, what it says in the Bible, in Genesis 9:12-15 after the Flood account, about the rainbow being a sign of the covenant with God and the land, and that he would never again bring about a flood to destroy all life.
12 And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: 13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.
Yet, although I have always remembered these things, both the mnemonic devices and God’s promise, it always surprises me how many people have never heard of either.
My Rainbow Gallery of Birds to show the wonder and beauty of God’s creation.
