Day #3 of Blogging101 and I’m still excited about blogging! The assignment is to “Meet Your Neighbors” in the blogosphere. Even though this is happens to be today’s assignment…I have been eagerly blog-hopping since I stumbled across The Daily Post site! One new neighbor I found was over at Hummingbird Lace Blog, who just happened to be featuring her “What’s On the Needle Wednesday” post, where she shares about some of her knitting WIPs…which just happens to have inspired this post…
I have been in a knitting funk for awhile now. I love knitting and dream about knitting…but every once in awhile, my knitting muse seems to go on vacation. Not terribly far, mind you. Near enough that I continue to admire (and quite possibly buy and pet) pretty yarn, and flip through knitting magazines/books or browse through the millions of patterns on Ravelry, continually adding more beautiful patterns to my ever growing cue of future projects. A cue of future projects that I will NEVER be able to finish in this lifetime! Yet far enough away, that I can’t manage to find the desire to actually start (ok…that is a bit of a lie…I have no problem starting projects…) finish a knitting project.
Not to worry, this funk is nothing serious…it usually occurs this time of year. When it is hot and muggy, the last thing I want to do is break out my knitting. As much as I love knitting, I guess I am just a ‘fair-weather knitter’…by which I mean, it needs to be chilly (maybe even down right cold) with a little nip in the air, and quite possibly snow on the ground and a cozy fire to sit by while I knit on my current project. The heat and mugginess of the summer just doesn’t conjure up the same cozy images in my head about knitting for me. During the summer months, the thought of a big, warm knitting project draping over my already hot and sweaty lap is the furthest thing from my mind, as I try to find ways to keep cool!
But I just received my Spring Fever KAL (knit-a-long) kit from Dancing Dog Dyeworks in the mail…and OH MY GOODNESS!!! It is so beautiful I can’t wait to get started.
The KAL is to knit this awesome Spring Fever Rugby Scarf/Shawl (which is a free pattern!)…and this is one of the few scarf/shawl things that I can do. I love all the lacy shawls out there, but I have the attention span of a gnat, so I just can not pay attention long enough to work my way through such intricate designs without making a mess of things. But this I think I can handle and I am very excited to see how it turns out.
So I am currently in the process of winding my yarn and gathering my needles together…and cranking up the A/C, so that I may be able to trick myself into thinking, it is the perfect time to cast on for this project!
I still haven’t quite decided in which order I want to work these colors…not sure if I want to do it as I have them laid out in the picture above…or if I want the neutral colors on the ends and arrange the blues and greens in order from dark to light (or light to dark) or some other variation…lol…so many decisions, so little time!
If you are a knitter and would like to check out this KAL, you can find us over on Ravelry in the Dancing Dog Dyeworks group, and you will find the the KAL chatter thread here.
And would love any insight on how you might arrange the colors…please feel free to leave ideas in the comments!
